The 26S proteasome is a 2.5MDa molecular machine consisting of a catalytic core particle (the 20S proteasome) and the 19S regulatory particle.
Crystal structure of the 20S proteasome has been obtained, but the precise structure of the whole complex is unclear.
The aim of this research is to elucidate the structure, assembly and enzymatic mechanism of the 26S proteasome.
